Named in honor of C. Henry Emeleus (4 September 1930, Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK - 11, November, 2017, Durham, UK), geologist and professor in the Department of Geological Sciences, University of Durham, UK. He is an expert on the igneous rocks of northwest Britain and Greenland.
