A former Au-Ag mine located in the N½NW¼ sec. 30, T2N, R15E, MDM, 1.4 km (4,700 feet) ENE of Browns Flat, in the headwaters area of Tennessee Gulch on the lower western slope of Bald Mountain. Property consisted of 2 claims. C. F. Smith and C. R. Watson et al., of Sonora. owners. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.
Mineralization is a quartz vein deposit hosted in quartzite, mica schist (Calaveras Formation) and slate. The ore body strikes N57E and dips 60NW. Granite dikes intersect quartz veins where pockets occur. The dike pinches and swells, 8 to 60 feet in thickness, dipping S. Ore was of gem quality (?). The ore shoots or pockets occur near east and west granite crossings, which reefs are from 8 to 60 feet wide and dip to the south. Rich pockets are formed at the point where these crossings come in contact with the vein in a belt of black slate, also with quartz stringer feeders having the same course as the vein, but dipping faster into the main vein near a crossing. The quartz is free milling, containing coarse gold associated with tellurides of gold and silver. Granite is an associated rock. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings comprised of 4 drift adits. The lower adit is 1,800 feet and is situated 80 feet below the higher adit, which is 500 feet long. One shaft on each of the 2 claims.
