A former lode Au mine located in secs. 12 & 13, T1S, R14E, and in sec. 18, T1S, R15E, MDM, 4.2 km (2.6 miles) SW of Hog Mountain (coordinates of record) (about 3 miles SE of Chinese Camp; along the NE bank of the Don Pedro Reservoir). The claim is 87 acres including the Mammoth or Republican locations and others - Mammoth Webator claim, consolidated into the Republican Mine. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. This group consists of the Mammoth, Orcutt, Republican, Harrison, and White Oak claims. The Principal claims are the Republican and the Mammoth.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with 3 veins, hosted in greenstone and slate. The ore body strikes N40W and dips 65NE. A broad mineralized zone consists of veins or lenses of quartz cutting schists. The veins have greenstone hanging walls, and slate footwalls. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains) and/or undivided pre-Cenozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 2 (undivided).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 700 foot inclined shaft on the Republican claim, with levels at 200, 300, 400 and 600 feet. The principal ore shoot was developed for 500 feet with an average thickness of 12 feet.
