A former lode Au mine located in sec. 13, T1S, R14E, MDM, about 4.2 km (2.6 miles) SW of Hog Mountain, along the NE shore of the Don Pedro Reservoir (Tuolumne River), on the divide between the river and Smarts Gulch. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Operated as an independent mine in the earlier days. Incorporated into the holdings of the Republican group (Republican Mine) in later years.
Mineralization is a quartz vein deposit hosted in greenstone and slate. The ore body strikes N45W and dips 65NE at a thickness of 9.14 meters. The hanging wall is slate and the footwall is greenstone. Gouge seams up to 6 feet thick with the massive quartz vein as thick as 30 feet. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of 4 crosscut adits above one another, the lowest and longest being 675 feet, 500 feet below the outcrop. There is a 430 foot deep winze on this adit, along gouge and massive quartz on the hanging wall side. Principal development was in the mid 1890's.
