A former placer Au mine located in sec. 6, T1N, R14E, MDM, 2.0 km (6,700 feet) WNW of Jamestown, on the southern margin of Rawhide Flat, W of Pulpit Rock, in the headwaters area of Bear Creek (on the N (?) slope of Table Mountain [topo map indicates W slope]), on private land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Note: 1920 report shows locality in sec. 6, but Pl. 8 (Logan, 1949) shows sec. 2. Pl. 8 also indicates holdings of 160 acres while other references show 89 acres (there may be 2 deposits/localities).
Mineralization seems to be both a placer Au occurrence (MRDS file #10117629), and a lode deposit (MRDS file #10077895), hosted in slate and serpentine. The ore body strikes N35W and dips 62NE. The footwall is serpentine and the hanging wall is slate. Pyrite comprises 2% of the ore. Local rocks include udivided pre-Cenozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 2 (undivided).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 630 foot inclined shaft on the footwall; a 100 foot crosscut adit with a drift on the 500 level. Crosscuts to the vein with drifts 200 feet and 175 feet are on 2 additional levels.
