A former pocket Au-Mn occurrence/prospect/mine located in sec. 25, T2N, R14E, MDM, 0.5 km (1,600 feet) ESE of Browns Flat, on the lower SW slope of Bald Mountain (0.1 mile W of highway 49, and 0.1 mile S of the junction of highway 49 and the Road to Columbia, 2 miles N of Sonora), on private land. Discovered in 1917. The claim(s) encompass 20 acres. Owned by A. L. Pedro, California (1974). MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.
NOTE: There are apparently 2 separate deposits/occurrences within a very small area. The Pedro is Mn and the Stonewall is a Au vein deposit. There are 4 MRDS database files and 2 MAS-MILS file number which pertain to this/these occurrence(s). All the MRDS files, except file #10165823 presents both names for the locality.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in mica schist. Ore on the dump consists of partially oxidized pink rhodonite, coated by black oxides, psilomelane and pyrolusite. Rhodonite meta-chert found in the pit bottom, probably not in situ, is recrystallized to fine-grained gray quartzite, containing patches and grains of rhodonite. The block was derived from a bed at least 1 foot thick, and 5 or more feet long. Just N of the prospect is a granitic-appearing rock, close to biotite diorite porphyry. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada) and/or limestone of probable Paleozoic or Mesozoic age.
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of several shafts and adits on the vein, plus a pit.
