A Au-Cu-Pb-Ag occurrence/prospect located in sec. 23 & 24, T3N, R15E, MDM, 4.1 km (2.5 miles) NNW of Cedar Ridge, along Rose Creek (2 miles NE of Columbia, on the ridge S of Rose Creek), on National Forest land. The claim is 1935 acres (probably 19.35 acres). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
NOTE: Goodwin (1957) refers to this as the Star. MRDS file #10263110 provides coordinates and lists this locality in sec. 1, T2N, R15E, MDM. This would seem to be in error since all other descriptive data places it in secs. 23 & 24, T3N, R15E.
Mineralization is a quartz vein deposit. The ore body strikes NE and dips 45SE. The vein is hosted in slate a few hundred feet from a large granite mass. The quartz is heavily sulfurated, giving a dark gray color. The gold is coarse. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a main shaft 170 feet deep, and an aggregate of 1,400 feet of workings (adits, shafts, winzes & raises).
