A former Au-Pb-Cu-Zn-Ag-Te mine located in sec. 4, T2N, R14E, MDM, 3.7 km (2.3 miles) WNW of Columbia, along the Stanislaus River (overlooking and partly in the canyon on the river). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.

The vein dips to the west ~ 30 to 45 degrees. The vein is thousands of feet long, with almost 6,000 feet that can be traced on the surface. Many assays, including numerous ones performed by J. Jordan, gave values exceeding over 1 ounce per ton (OPT) of Au, Ag, & Te. The mine was shut down in 1941 due to the war, where miners were reported to be averaging over 11 OPT in the Prescott ore shoot. There had been 4 developed at this time along a 1,200 foot long tunnel, with the gold getting "coarser" towards the southern contact of limestone and dolostone. (J. Jordan, Economic Geologist)


Dated and apparently incomplete and at least partially erroneous data from the USGS MRDS database: Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in granodiorite. The ore body is pinch-and-swell in form, strikes NW and dips 60NE at a thickness of 7.62 meters, a width of 60.96 meters and a length of 121.92 meters. By 1900 an ore shoot had been the principal discovery with an average thickness of 5 feet. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).

NOTE: Data extracted from the MRDS database cryptically comments on an/another Densmore Mine with the same commodities allegedly being located elsewhere. The cryptic comments could not be clarified due to the truncation of incomplete data: "11STS A DENSMORE MINE IN T2N RIG Deposit:: HAS THE SAME COMMODITIES , BELIEVETHIS LOCATION UNLIKELY- OU Deposit:: MOTHER LODE BELT."

Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 121.92 meters, and comprised of a drift adit 400 feet long, intersecting the shaft 400 feet from the surface. There were also several minor shafts and adits.
