A former dredge placer Au-PGE (Pt-Os-Ir) mine located in secs. 26-28, and 34-36, T34N, R11W, and in secs. 1 & 2, T33N, R11W, MDM, 2.1 km (6,800 feet) WNW of Red Hill and 2.9 km (9,600 feet) ESE of Helena, on the Trinity River at Coopers Bar and near the river's confluence with Valdor Gulch (5 miles below Junction City on the river. Accurate within dredged area. Location given is where Valdor Gulch enters Trinity River on Coopers Bar). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.

Mineralization is a Holocene stream placer deposit hosted in alluvium (Mineral occurrence model information: Model code 119; USGS model code 39a; BC deposit profile C01. C02; deposit model name: Placer Au-PGE; Mark3 model number 54), hosted in alluvium. The ore body is 6.1 meters thick with a depth-to-top of 3.66 meters. Controls for ore emplacement were stream hydraulics. Local rocks include schist of various types and ages, unit 7 (Klamath Mountains).

Related tectonic structures include the Klamath Mountains Accreted Terrane.

Workings included surface (and underground ?) openings comprised of dredging, surface mining, drift mining and hydraulic mining.

Largest producer of Pt in Trinity County (Logan). 900,000 yards of material were dredged through 1917.

Analytical data results: Average analysis of PGE samples yielded 41.97% Pt, 52.73% Os, and 1.30% Au (Logan: 109), but values vary considerably. Ratio of Pt:Au = 1.25:100. Tabling of black sand concentrate from 1 ton of sand carried 0.112 ounces Au, 0.016 ounce Pt, and 0.014 ounce Os. Gold fineness = $16-19/ounce (period values).
