A former surface placer Au-PGE (Pt-Ir-Os) deposit/mine (dredge) located in sec. 19, T3S, R14E, MDM, along the lower Tuolumne River at river mile 50, 0.6 km (2,000 feet) WNW of La Grange proper. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated. This locality is evidenced on the topo map by a large shaded area indicated as tailings.
NOTE: This one of several very large fairly contiguous dredged areas. Data presented in available references in insufficient to distinguish which of these areas had common ownership or a common operating dredge.
Mineralization is a stream placer deposit in the Ione Formation. The host material is gravel and conglomerate. Local rocks include Quaternary alluvium and marine deposits.
Tectonic Structures include the base of the Sierra Nevada foothills.
