A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in the SE¼ (estimated) sec. 4, T18N, R10E, MDM, 1.1 km (0.7 mile) E of Mack House, on Oak Flat, S of Kanaka Creek (2 miles SSW of Alleghany), on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in schist & gabbro. The ore body strikes N40W and dips 50SW at a thickness of 0.91 meter. Quartz lenses occur along a shear zone that strikes N30-50W. The largest lenses are 100 feet wide and up to 3 feet thick. Sulfides follow parallel planes from shearing after the first vein filling. At one point veinlets of chalcedonic quartz carrying pyrite cut the older quartz. This suggests that an original definite vein has been sheared by post-mineralization movement into a series of discontinuous lenses. Local rocks include Mesozoic gabbroic rocks, unit 2 (undivided) and/or ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 2 (Western Sierra Nevada and Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 2,300 foot adit along the shear zone.
