A former lode Au-Pb-Cu occurrence/mine located in secs. 21, 22, 27 & 28, T20N, R12E, MDM, 1.7 km (1.1 mile) NNE of Sierra City, along the W canyon wall of the North Yuba River (E slope of Sierra Buttes), on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. The adit is shown in the SW¼ sec. 22. Adjoins the Sierra Buttes, Butte Saddle, Mountain View and J.H. Henderson claims.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with ore shoots hosted in diorite and porphyry. The ore body strikes E and dips 68N. The vein is 3½ feet thick with quartz gouge on both walls. The footwall is blue diorite and the hanging wall id porphyry. The vein dips 63-74N. There are 3 ore shoots: 1) 125 feet by 3 feet; 2) 50 feet by 3 feet thick; and, 3) 84 feet by 3 feet thick. Local rocks include Paleozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 2 (Northeastern Sierra Nevada).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of a 700 foot adit, 800 feet of drifts, 112 foot winze and a 150 foot raise. The shafts are caved. There are also unspecified surface openings. Production data are found in: MacBoyle (1920).
Au at 0.27 ounce/ton was reported from stopes above adit level. Production information: grade was from $4 to $8 (period values)/ton.
Analytical data results: 12% concentrates went $150/ton.
