A former Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 20, T19N, R10E, MDM, 1.1 km (0.7 mile) E of Old Mountain House, W of Lucky Dog Creek (4 miles SSW of Downieville), on National Forest land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit. The ore body strikes WNW and dips 45S at a thickness of 2.44 meters. There are 2 veins. The Lost Treasure vein is 400 feet E of the Comet vein. The Lost Treasure is a fissure vein 1 to 8 feet thick filled with quartz & porphyry. Both vein walls are porphyry. The Comet is a fissure vein striking E and dipping 45S at 2 feet thick carrying _______ (data missing in USGS MRDS database file) with porphyry walls. Gold occurs in near-surface oxidized ore. Local rocks include Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 9 (Cascade Range).
Workings include surface and underground openings with an overall depth of 12.19 meters and an overall length of 457.2 meters and comprised of a 70 foot adit on the Lost reasure vein and open cuts and a 12 foot shaft on the Comet vein.
