A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in the NW¼ sec. 35, T20N, R11E, MDM, about 5 km W of Loganville, S of the North Yuba River (3½ miles W of Sierra City), on National Forst land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.

NOTE: The USGS MRDS database contains 2 sets of files for a Cleveland Mine in Sierra County. Both have "Gray Eagle" as an alternate name. The chances of this type of duplication of names is very unlikely and the other set of files probably apply to this locality in the Sierra City District. Clark (1970) lists the Cleveland Mine in the Sierra City District.

Mineralization is a vein deposit with ore shoots hosted in slate. The ore body is pinch-and-swell in form, strikes NW and dips 80NE. The vein contains ribbon quartz that swerlls to several feet. There are 2 ore shoots exposed for 200 feet in adit No. 1, 250 feet in adit No. 2, that is 100 feet vertically below No. 1, and 500 feet in adit No. 3, which is 280 feet vertically below No. 2. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).

Workings include surface and underground openings with an overall depth of 115.82 meters, overall length of 1,371.6 meters and an overall width of 182.88 meters and comprised of a series of adits. Adit No. 3 is 2,580 feet long with a winze sunk 300 feet below adit No. 3.

Production data are found in: Logan, Clarence August (1929).

This mine was possibly worked in the late 1920's and early 1930's. No other production record was found.

Analytical data results: 5% pyrite.
