A former lode Au-Mn mine located in sec. 16, T32N, R6W, MDM, 1.7 km (5,400 feet) SE of Whiskeytown, along highway 299, on the NE shore of Whiskeytown Lake, on National Park Service land (Whiskeytown-Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area). Mining activity began in the 1800's and was intermittent over the following 50 years. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in meta-rhyolite. The ore body forms lenses. Ore control included a crushed zone 3 to 4 feet wide. There are 4 veins in rhyolite near a contact with greenstone. Associated rocks include diorite. Local rocks include Paleozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 1 (Eastern Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of several adits, one at 140 feet, drifts, and a 110 foot crosscut. The ore shoot is 220 feet x 18 inches.
Analytical data results: ore was about $10/ton (period values).
