A former Cu-Au-Ag-Zn occurrence/mine located in sec. 32, T2N, and sec. 5, T1N, R21E, SBM, 2.7 km (1.7 miles) SSE of Horn Peak (coordinates of record) (13 airline miles W of Vidal Junction), W of Horn Spring (dry). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters. High grade Cu ore.
Mineralization is hosted in quartzite, gneiss, and schist. The ore body strikes N55W and dips vertical at a thickness of 8.23 meters. The ore minerals form small replacement bodies along fault zones in metamorphic rocks. Two parallel veins occur 200 feet apart and crop out on the SE slope of a NE-trending ridge. The ore body is 2 to 27 feet thick and is at its thickest at the intersection of the vein with a cross fracture. Rocks in the area are Archean metamorphics. One deposit is associated with a quartz-spinel rock that grades into a quartz-spinel-sericite schist. In the northern area basalt locally overlies the metamorphic rocks. Local rocks include pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided and/or Precambrian igneous and metamorphic rock complex.
Local geologic structures include fractures and fault zones.
Workings include surface and underground openings. The NE vein was explored by surface cuts and 2 short adits 150 feet apart and with a 70 foot difference in elevation. The lower adit is 90 feet long. The upper adit was driven S70W for 50 feet. The SW vein was explored by a 50 foot drift adit. Previous workings totaled 750 feet.
Production data are found in: Wright, L.A., et al (1953): 64.
Production statistics: Year: 1952: ore (estimated): ^4.84-6.71% Cu + small Au values. Recovery percentage: Cu @ 6 weight percent.
