A former Cu-Pb-Ag-Au occurrence/mine located in sec. 5, T16N, R13E, SBM, 2.6 km (1.6 miles) SSW of Clark Mountain (summit) (coordinates of record), straddling the SW spur of Clark Mountain at about 1650 meters elevation and about 4 km. (air travel) N of Interstate 15, between Valley Wells Station and Mountain Pass, on private (patented) land. Since 1994, it has been included in the Mojave National Preserve, managed by the National Park Service. Operated during the periods 1906 to 1908, 1916 to 1918 and 1944. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.

Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in the Bully Hill rhyolite and Goodsprings dolomite. The ore body is irregular in form, strikes N40W and dips 50SW at a thickness of 2.44 meters and width of 60.96 meters. Copper minerals are associated with bodies of silicate minerals formed as alterations of Goodspring dolomite near sill-like bodies of quartz monzonite. The dolomite is widely exposed on the West side of Clark Mountain with a general NW strike and SW dip. It is highly deformed in the mine area. Associated rocks include Late Cretaceous quartz monzonite. Local rocks include Cambrian marine rocks.

Workings include surface and underground openings. The Copper World workings are comprised of a series of large open cuts at 5,180 feet. The main tunnel is driven N40W for 753 feet, and drifts SW for 100 feet where a winze was sunk on the contact to a depth of 75 feet. A crosscut was driven N40E for 40 feet at the bottom of the winze. There are over 2,000 feet of crosscuts and drifts at this level. 45 feet above the main tunnel is another tunnel 600 feet in length. The Dewey workings include 4 tunnels with the upper tunnel driven NW for 125 feet and stoped to surface for 75 feet. 25 feet below is an open cut and 50 foot tunnel. Below this is a NW tunnel 75 feet long with the ore stoped out to the tunnel above. The lower tunnel was driven N65W for 180 feet, then drifted NW 100 feet to a 75 foot winze.

Production data are found in: Goodwin, Joseph Grant (1957).

The main production occurred during the period 1917 to 1920, when smelter recovery averaged 6.75% Cu, 10% Pb, 5.8 ounces Ag/ton plus some Au.

Analytical data results: low-grade ore 2% Cu.

The Dewey Mine could be considered part of the Copper World Mine but they were distinctly separate mining operations over 300 meters apart. Also there are several mineral reports that give differing results for each locality. The MRDS reports them as separate entities. Wright (1953) reports that they were both owned by the Ivanpah Copper Company.
