A former Cu-Au-Ag occurrence/mine located in sec. 26, T2N, R25E, SBM, 7.6 km (4.7 miles) ENE of Vista Peak (coordinates of record) and 7.9 km (4.9 miles) SW of Monumental Peak (coordinates of record), on the S slope of the Whipple Mountains (5 miles N of Earp). Owned by Floyd Prewitt (25%); Earp, California; W. Newberry (25%), California; J. Sanders (25%); and, by D. Sneek (25%), California (all 1982). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.

Corrected Coordinates N34.23784 W114.32314 taken at the entrance of the mine adit in the year 2010 by Richard Muster using an Ashtech MM6.

This property was examined in conjunction with the mineral appraisal of the Whipple Mountains Wilderness Study Area (Bureau of Land Management) in 1980. Backup information can be found in the WFOC mineral property files.

Mineralization is hosted in rhyolite. The ore body strikes N30W and dips 40E at a length of 610 meters. Ore body No. 1 is tabular in a shear zone and No. 2 is irregular. The primary mode of origin was hydrothermal activity and the secondary mode was oxidation. Primary ore control was fracturing and the secondary control was faulting. Wallrock alteration is slight (propylitic, sericitic). A rhyolite dike occurs in Pre-Cambrian metamorphic rocks. Brecciated zones occur in the dike with thin seams and coatings of chrysocolla. The dike strikes N30W and dips 50SW at 3 to 12 feet thick. The brecciated zone is cemented with specular hematite. Local rocks include pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided and/or Precambrian igneous and metamorphic rock complex.

Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of short adits and shallow cuts. 1,000 feet NW is a vertical shaft reported to be 300 to 400 feet deep. The mine adit goes into the mountain for about 150 feet and has several branches. Outside there is a big hole (vent, syphon ? ), big enough to swallow a Jeep.

USGS lists also Limonite and Malachite, but this could not be verified.
