A former lode Au-Ag-Pb-Cu-Zn-As occurrence/mine located in the S½NE¼SW¼ and in the S½NW¼SE¼, sec. 12, T12N, R7E, and in the SW¼ sec. 7, T12N, R8E, MDM, 1.9 km (1.2 miles) NW of Ophir and about 3 to 4 miles W of Auburn, on the eastern margin of Doty Flat, S of Doty Ravine and NW of the Ophir School (4 miles W of Auburn; 2 miles N of Newcastle). Owned by the Mutual Security Co. (1935). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.

Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in granodiorite, diorite, amphibolite, and schist. The ore body strikes NW and dips 70SW at a thickness of 0.91 meter. The gold-bearing vein is principally in granitic rock and is about 1 mile along strike. The veins are 2 to 3 feet thick and carry 1½ to 3% sulfides. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).

Workings include underground openings with a length of 167.64 meters and an overall depth of 146.3 meters and comprised of shafts, tunnels (adits ?) and drifts.

Production:: Logan, Clarence August (1936), Waring, Clarence A. (1917), and in Goodwin, Joseph Grant (1957).

Production statistics: Year: 1899 (period = 1896 to 1899) (estimate): 11 grams Au/metric ton.

No other production record was found.

Analytical data results: Concentrate assays: $17.55 to $255.00 (period values) Au/ton; $57.04 to $75.52 (period values) Ag/ton; Ore assayed 0.5 ounce Au & 245 ounces Ag/ton.
