A former Cu-Au-Ag occurrence/mine located in sec. 27, T14N, R6E, MDM, 7.5 km (4.7 miles) NNW of Kilaga Springs and 9.4 km (5.8 miles) NE of Sheridan, on private (patented) land. The property comprises 160 acres. Operated during the periods 1922, 1904 to 1905, 1918, and 1933 to 1935. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a replacement deposit hosted in amphibolite schist, and porphyry. The ore body is lenticular, strikes N2W and dips 60E and is 18.29 meters wide and has a depth-to-top of 25.91 meters. The footwall is porphyry and the hanging wall is amphibolite schist. The ore occurs as lenses 10 to 60 feet wide. The deposit is capped by gossan, which was worked for Au & Ag content. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings with a length of 2,008.63 meters and an overall depth of 179.83 meters. They were comprised of a 3-compartment, inclined shaft 590 feet deep, with 1,000 feet of drifts, cuts and raises on each level. The open cut is 600 feet long and 30 feet wide at the bottom. The shrinkage system of mining was employed. A cement copper plant was built here in 1960.
production information: Yield varied greatly: Au at $1.25 to $4.00 (period values) ton; Ag at a few cents to $1.70 (period values) per ton; and Cu at 1% to 15%. No production values are available.
Analytical data results: Sulfides averaged 3% Cu.
