A former Au-Cu-Pb-Zn-Ag mine located in the NE¼ sec. 35 & sec. 36, T12N, R7E, MDM, 1.1 km (0.7 mile) E of Penryn (2 miles SW of Newcastle). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Located S of the Elizabeth Minea and N of the Mary Len claim.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in granodiorite and gabbro. The ore body strikes N20W and dips 90 at a thickness of 0.91 meter. The vein is a few inches to 3 feet thick, generally 1 to 2 feet in the ore shoots. The widest parts were reportesly low-grade with less than 1% sulfides. The vein is faulted in places. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include underground openings with a length of 667.51 meters and an overall depth of 152.4 meters and comprised of 2 shafts, a winze, drifts and 2 raises.
Production data are found in: Logan (1936), Goodwin (1957), and Rice (1951).
The average yield during the first year of milling was estimated at $17.00 (period values) Au/ton.
No other production records were found.
