A former Mn occurrence/prospect/mine located in the SW¼ (probable) sec. 12, T15N, R9E, MDM, 4.7 km (2.9 miles) SSW of You Bet, along the W canyon wall of Bear River (W shore Bear River arm, Rollins Reservoir) (5 miles NNE of Colfax), on private lease land. Discovered in 1917. The property comprises 3 claims. Owned by Buck Ryan, California (1974). Operated by Joseph M. Gross, California, (1974). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10,000 meters (sic). This property probably includes the same prospect as the Bartholf and Veach Mine of WWI, and the Black Ledge of WWI.

Mineralization is hosted in Pennsylvanian metasedimentary rocks of the Calaveras Complex. The ore body is 0.91 meter (3 feet) thick. Deposit is hosted in Calaveras series - L. Manganese oxides are mixed with white chert and cut by quartz veins, and enclosed in sericite schist of the Calaveras Formation. The average strike is N15W and dips 80E. The ore materials are psilomelane and pyrolusite. Rhodonite float is present. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).

Workings include surface and underground openings. WWI operations included surface cuts which were bulldozed out by 1943.

production information: Three carloads of ore were mined and shipped in 1915 and 1916. Total production was between 150 and 999 tons. Some ore was hauled to the metals reserve depot during the early part of 1943., but the minimum shipment of 10 tons had not been completed as of 2/16/43.

Analytical data results: Ore grade 20 to 30% Mn.
