A former Au-Pb-Zn-Ag occurrence/mine located in secs. 16, 17, 20 & in the W½ (NW¼NW¼) sec. 21, T1N, R11E, MDM, 2.5 km (1.6 miles) SSW of Graniteville, on the divide between Poorman Creek and South Fork Poorman Creek (Erie Point), on private (patented) land within a National Forest area. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Original property comprised 10.94 acres (Erie & Ancho claims). This was later expanded to 80 acres and included the listed claims/mines.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in rocks of the Blue Canyon Formation and the Tightner Formation (metasedimentary rocks, slate, granite). The ore body forms several shoots, one in the Ancho vein is 400 feet long and 5 to 30 feet thick. Two in the Dublin Bay at 70 to 100 feet long and 12 to 15 feet thick. The strike is W of N and the dip is 60-70E. Thickness is 15.24 meters. The Ancho claim has 4 veins averaging 4 feet thick. Two veins occur on the Erie claim. About ½ mile W the Blue Canyon Formation has a contact with granite. Meta-sediments are marine in nature. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings with a length of 731.52 meters and an overall depth of 152.4 meters, and comprised of crosscuts, adits, drifts and stopes.
Production data are found in: Averill, C.V., et al (1951); Logan, Clarence August (1941); and MacBoyle, Errol (1919).
Ore milled prior to 1930 yielded $3 to $6 (period values) Au/ton from the Ancho vein. Several million dollars in Au with Ag-Pb-Zn as by-products was realized from ore mined prior to 1948. Clark (1970a) places total output of this mine group at $1,000,000+.
Analytical data results: Ore assayed at $5 (period values) or more per ton.
