A travertine marble (dimension) deposit and quarry operation located in the SW¼ sec. 34, T5N, R25E, MDM, 2.5 km (8,200 feet) ESE of Bridgeport, and NE of Travertine Hot Springs, on Bureau of Land Management wilderness land (Bodie Mountain Wilderness Study Area). MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.
Mineralization is a metamorphic marble deposit. The depsoit consists of 5 prominent ridges of banded onyx marble or travertine, 6 to 15 feet high, and of somewhat greater thickness. The travertine is banded and stained various shades of red and yellow, has a pleasing mottled effect, and is sufficiently translucent to give depth to the coloring, and takes a good polish. Local rocks include Tertiary volcanic flow rocks, unit 17 (Cascade Range).
Workings include surface quarrying operations. Several quarries have been opened up and a carload was shipped in 1926. Equipment consisted of a derrick.
Poduction information: Quarry opend in one of the ridges (1893-1895); about 60 tons shipped.
