A former lode Au mine located in the SE¼ or center of sec. 10, T5S, R16E, MDM, 2.3 km (7,400 feet) SSE of Quartzburg (2.5 miles ENE of Hornitos), on private (patented) land. Discovered in 1855. Property consists of 3 patented claims totaling 41 acres. Operated by W. R. Plunkett and U.M. Peyrellade. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with 12 veins ranging from 3 to 15 feet thick, hosted in schist, gneiss, hornfels and granodiorite. The ore body strikes N-N20W and dips 25-30E at a thickness of 4.57 meters. Some ore occurs in altered dike material. Quartz chiefly of massive to vuggy milky variety. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of 6 shafts, 30 to 387 feet deep, 350 foot drift adit, various levels & workings.
Moderate production of low-grade ore between 1930-1936.
