A former lode Au mine located in the NW¼ sec. 3, T3S, R16E, MDM, 0.4 km (1,200 feet) SSE of Coulterville on Louisa Point (summit) (astride highway 49), on private land. Discovered in 1855. Operated during the period 1894 to 1900. Operated by Walter J. Lautenschlager. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated but T&R value stated as being accurate. Principal activity was 1894 - 1900 when operators spent more than $56,000 in improvements & development.

Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in Late Jurassic slate, pyroxenite, andesite and greenstone. The ore body is tabular to lenticular, strikes N40-45W and dips 70-75NE at a thickness of 6.1 meters, and a width of 91.44 meters. Local alteration is the hyrothermal alteration of serpentine. Ore control was the hanging wall or footwall side of massive quartz sub-veins. The bulk of the vein consists of quartz-mariposite-ankerite rock derived from the hydrothermal alteration of the serpentine. The upper oxidized portion of the vein has been converted to a spongy, rust-colored, earthy rock consisting chiefly of yellow iron oxides intermixed with quartz stringers. The vein system lies along the contact of the Amador Group and the Mariposa Formation. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).

Workings include underground openings with a total length of 723.9 meters and an overall depth of 114.3 meters. They are comprised of the vertical Nelson shaft at 375 feet deep with 3 levels and an air shaft 150 feet deep, 850 feet of drifts, 775 feet of crosscuts and 600 feet of winzes.
