A Mn-Hg-Ni(?) occurrence/prospect located in the SW¼ sec. 28, T4N, R7W, MDM, 8.7 km (5.4 miles) NW of Novato (6.5 miles S of Petaluma; 2.5 miles SE of Union School). Discovered in 1915 or 1918. Owned by R. Mazza (1974)/operated by Francis A. Mazza. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters. Developed by M. Vonsen during WWI but no shipments were made. The pit is idle and is nearly filled with material bulldozed from a nearby trail.

The ore body strikes N25E and dips 60SE at 15 feet thick. It lies parallel to enclosing chert. The hanging wall is soft brown, iron-stained chert and the footwall is covered by alluvium. It is gray and pink carbonate with a progressive silica content toward the footwall. Quartz veins cut the ore and masses of pyrite and specks of cinnabar are present. A small amount of oxide is found along the hanging wall. The proportion of silica is so high that the production of Mn ore seems unlikely. Local rocks include ultramafic rocks, chiefly Mesozoic, unit 3 (Coast Ranges and Western Klamath Mountains).

Workings include surface openings comprised of a pit about 30 feet in diameter.
