A former lode Au mine located in the E½ center sec. 29, T4S, R18E, MDM, about 3,500 feet E of Whitlock, and about 4.2 miles NNE of Mount Bullion, along Sherlock Creek, of private and unpatented land. Discovered in the 1860's (1865 ?). Operated during the periods ~ 1860 to 1895 and 1924 to 1954. The property was comprised of 2 patented claims and 6 unpatented, 3 of which were fractional claims. Operated by Diltz Mines (Allen F. Grant, et al.). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.

Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in Late Permian slate and greenstone. The ore body strikes N10E and dips 37.5E at a thickness of 6.1 meters. The pyroxene andesite gteenstone is of probable Paleozoic age. The principal vein averages 2½ feet in thickness. The vein flattens or rolls and feathers out into wall rocks in places, becoming 15 - 2 feet thick near the old open workings NE of the main shaft. The difference between the hanging wall and footwall greenstone may indicate considerable throw along the fault. The chief ore mineral was arsenopyrite. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).

Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of old open workings and a 625 foot inclined shaft with 6 levels, aggregating 4,700 feet of drifts. There are also several shallow inclined shafts and tunnels.

Production information: Total estimated production is between $750,000 and $1,000,000 (period values). From 1924-1954 the mine produced 81,657 tons of ore yielding 21,135 ounces of Au and 3,395 ounces of Ag. Figures do not include the period of ~1860-1895, nor many masses of specimen gold of considerable value, which did not pass through the government mint. The mine and mill have been largely idle since 1952.

Production assay results: ^0.24 ounces/ton (7 grams/metric ton) Au and ^0.03 ounces/ton (1 gram/metric ton) Ag.
