A Sn occurrence/prospect located in the NW¼SW¼ sec. 30, T9N, R17W, SBM, 12.3 km (7.7 miles) E of Lebec and 12.3 km (7.6 miles) ENE of Gorman (Los Angeles County), on private land. Discovered in 1942. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters. Located about 200 feet E of the road to the Kelso Mine, on the N side of a small tributary gulch that opens S into the valley near the mouth of Alamos Creek.
The ore body strikes N50W and dips 30N at a thickness of 1 meter, a width of 16 meters and a length of 30 meters. Ore body No. 1 is an irregular replacement deposit. Ore body No. 2 is a disseminated body. The primary mode of origin was contact metasomatism. Primary ore control was fracturing and the secondary control was lithology. Wallrock alteration is moderate (bleaching). Four Sn-bearing iron oxide bodies formed at the contact with granite by limestone replacement and oxidation of the ore bodies. Granite is exposed on the slopes N and W of the deposits, and has equal quartz and feldspar content. White, massive, fine-grained, recrystallized limestone has indistinct bedding, appearing to dip 35-40NE. Two faults cut the area. One large ore body is 150 feet long, 15 to 60 feet wide, with a hanging wall that dips 30-35N. Ore material is iron oxides grading to clayey material, some magnetite and jaspery limonite. Visible cassiterite is rare. The second largest body is 50 feet long, 2.5 feet thick, strikes N75E and dips 30NW. Associated rocks include Late Cretaceous granite. Local rocks include limestone of probable Paleozoic or Mesozoic age.
Workings include surface and underground openings.
Analytical data results: The ore grade averages 0.5 to 1.0% Sn.
