A former lode W-Mo occurrence/mine located in the central E½ (estimated) sec. 36, T28S, R33E, MDM, 2.1 km (1.3 miles) SSE of Piute Peak (coordinates of record) (3 miles W of Claraville), on National Forest land. Operated in 1942 and 1950. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in granite and metasedimentary rock (schist). The ore body strikes N30W and dips 60NE at a width of 12.19 meters and a length of 91.44 meters. The scheelite occurs in quartz veinlets cutting tactite. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include underground openings with a length of 54.86 meters and comprised of a 20 foot shaft, a 60 foot crosscut adit with 100 feet of a drift trending N45W along the ore shoot.
Production data are found in: Troxel, Bennie Wyatt & P.K. Morton (1962).
Analytical data results: Averaged 0.5% WO3.
Production statistics: Year: 1942 (accurate): Recovery percentage = 2 weight percent WO3; Year: 1950 @ 30% WO3.
