A former Mn occurrence/prospect/mine located in the SE¼ sec. 12, T30S, R39E, MDM, about 4.1 km W of Sidney Peak, along the western margin of the Rand Mountains (7 road miles SW of Randsburg), on Bureau of Land Management administered land. Discovered in 1918. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in Neoproterozoic schist. A manganiferous quartzite bed is enclosed in schist. The bed is faulted so that the northern part dips 75W, and the southern part dips 55SW. The highest grade ore is on 2 walls of the quartzite layer. The ore contains rhodonite, spessartine and black oxide with silica both intermixed and as iron-stained skeletons free of Mn. Local rocks include schist of various types and ages, unit 2 (Southern and West-central California).
Analytical data results: Sorted ore grades 32% Mn, 43.4% insoluble.
