A former Mn-silica-talc/soapstone occurrence/mine located in the SE¼ sec. 16, T30S, R40E, MDM, 1.5 km (0.9 mile) ESE of Sidney Peak (about 6 km SSW of Randsburg), on Bureau of Land Management administered land (located claim). Owned by H.B. Marvin, Lancaster, California (100%) (1975- ). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Located 6 miles by road W of Atolia, on the Randsburg Branch of the Santa Fe railroad.
Mineralization is hosted in Neoproterozoic schist. The ore body strikes N30E and dips 50S at a thickness of 0.6 meter, width of 10 meters and a length of 195 meters. Ore body No. 1 is disseminated/tabular. Ore body No. 2 is a fissure vein. The primary mode of origin was metamorphism. Primary ore control was lithology and the secondary was bedding. There is no wallrock alteration. The ore is a mixture of black manganese oxides and silica in varying proportions. A 3.5 foot layer of Mn-bearing quartzite strikes N30E and dips 50S. The foot and hanging walls are quartz-mica schist. Better ore occurs as pockets in the more siliceous material. Banded quartz-rhodonite-garnet (spessartine) was found a few feet at depth in the upper workings. Local rocks include schist of various types and ages, unit 2 (Southern and West-central California).
