A Au-Ag-S-Fe occurrence located 6.7 km (4.1 miles) ENE of Harris Hill (coordinates of record), along Marble Canyon (0.2 air miles NNE of old Millspaugh site), on National Park Service wilderness land (Death Valley National Park/Death Valley Wilderness). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. This small working was driven to explore the limits of am mineralized shear zone which has a fair amount of Fe in the form of specularite and pyrite. No other ore minerals were noted but precious metals may be present. Au & Ag presence is speculative pending assays.
Mineralization is hosted in Late Cretaceous hornblendite and granodiorite. The ore body is tabular in form, strikes N70W and dips 80SW. The shear zone is 8 feet wide and composed of sheared and altered hornblende granodiorite that appears almost schistose with scattered quartz veinlets up to 1 foot (0.31 meters) thick. Local rocks include Permian marine sedimentary rocks, unit 1 (Death Valley and Mojave Desert).
Workings inmclude surface and underground openings with a length of 14.94 meters, an overall depth of 13.11 meters, alength of 15.54 meters and an overall width of 3.05 meters, and consist of 1 vertical shaft 14 feet long (??), 10 feet wide and 43 feet deep; 2 suirface pits 6 feet long and 7 feet wide, filled with stope wash to 3 feet deep. A trench is located along the shear zone strike approximately 25 feet NW of the shaft and 10 feet higher.
