A former Cu-Au-Ag mine located in sec. 11, T21S, R45E, MDM, 0.7 km (0.4 mile) ENE of Panamint (City), along Water Canyon, on National Park Service land (Death Valley National Park). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.

NOTE: USGS MRDS database file note: "LAND UNSURVEYED Looks like typo in Latitude. Values changed to match DEP_ID 10139400." Mindat editor note during first revision of this Mindat file: "The coordinates provided in MRDS are in apparent error. Specifically, the latitude value of 35°13'17" places the mine over 10 miles N of Panamint city. Adjustment of the value to 36°07'17" places it within the parameters described in Murdoch & Webb (½ mile N of Panamint)." Coordinates ultimately provided in this Mindat file are those from the adjusted values in MRDS file #10103513, which are virtually the same as the values interpolated by the Mindat editor.

Mineralization is a vein deposit with several veins averaging 2 feet in thickness, hosted in rocks of the Mariposa and/or Surprise Formation (schist). The ore body strikes N40W and dips 25NE. Controls for ore emplacement included schistosity. Veinlets of siderite cut marcasite and chalcopyrite. Marcasite replaces pyrrhotite along cleavage planes. The paragenesis was postulated as follows: pyrite, quartz, pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite, marcasite and siderite overlapping with marcasite and chalcopyrite. Detailed petrographic descriptions of sulfides are found in Sampson (1932). Heavily mineralized with massive sulfides and subordinate coarsely granular, glassy quartz. Pyrrhotite and pyrite impregnate the wall rocks for several inches from the vein. Most sulfides occur on surface. Apparently some Ag-bearing veins occur on ot near the main deposit. Local alteration includes oxidation near surface. Local rocks include Precambrian rocks, undivided, unit 1 (Death Valley).

Workings are probably underground workings described as totaling 300 feet.

Analytical data results: The ore was not successfully concentrated due to high sulfide content, but ranged, in tenor, from $13 to $7 per ton (period values) in Au.
