A former W mine located in secs. 18 & 19, T19S, R41E, MDM, 1.2 km (0.7 mile) ENE of Darwin. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters. Updated description, links and position N36.27080 W117.57813 by Richard Muster, courtesy Walt Margerum.
Mineralization is a contact-metamorphic type deposit. The ore bodies are replacements of limestone and tactite beds. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
In the early 1900’s it was mined for copper. In the 1940’s it was mined for Tungsten (Scheelite) The main shaft is 103 feet deep with a 25 foot stope at the bottom. The ore body is at approximately 95 feet.
