A former lode Au-Cu-Zn-Pb mine located in the SE¼NW¼ & NE¼SW¼ sec. 27, T9N, R10E, MDM, about 5 km E of Mount Aigare and 3.3 km (2.0 miles) NNW of Nashville (Nashville District), on the western slope of Logtown Ridge, on private land. The claim contains 18.42 acres. Operated by George Ross. Originally worked in the 1850's and during the period 1870 to 1907. Prospected in the 1930's and 1953-1954. Early in 1955 the present lessee leased the mine and had been mining some high-grade ore from small pockets in the vein. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in fine-grained, Late Jurassic andesite of the Logtown Ridge Formation. The ore body strikes NNW with a flat dip. The Au is chiefly in small but rich ore shoots with little or no sulfides near surface. Sulfides increase with depth. Chalcopyrite and sphalerite are the most common. Pyrite and galena are present in smaller amounts. Much of the most recent output has been specimen material. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of open cuts and shallow shafts for about 2,000 feet along the strike. Recent work was in a new 70 foot crosscut adit and several nearby open cuts in the central portion of the deposit. Some workings were rehabilitated. Developed by open cuts and shallow shafts for approximately 2,000 feet along strike.
No production record was found.
Some high-grade ore was obtained from pockets in 1955., near surface.
Analytical data results: Sulfide concentration increases with depth.
