A former lode Au occurrence/mine located in the SW¼ sec. 12, T12N, R9E, MDM, 1.5 km (1.0 mile) WNW of Greenwood, ENE of Penobscot Farm. Operated 1896 to 1897 and in 1901. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in Mariposa slate. The ore body strikes N30W and dips 56NE at a thickness of 0.61 meter. The hanging wall is serpentinite and the footwall is slate. A talcose schiost encases the vein. A greenish quartz stringer, 1½ to 2 feet thick, with coarse gold occurs 85 feet down the main shaft and is high-grade ore. Local rocks include Jurassic marine rocks, unit 1 (Western Sierra Nevada and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 112 foot inclined shaft.

Analytical data results: High-grade ore = 2% Au-bearing pyrite.
