A limestone occurrence located in the SW¼ sec. 6, T17S, R10E, SBM, 4.0 km (2.5 miles) SSW of Ocotillo, on Bureau of Land Management administered land. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 10 meters.
Mineralization is a limestone deposit with associated gneissic tonalite. The ore body strikes N10-35W and dips 35-55SW at a thickness of 6.4 meters and a length of 457.2 meters. A granitic sill intrudes limestone in places and follows segments of the beds. Two parallel beds of coarse-grained, white-gray limestone occur along the foliation in gneissic tonalite and contain sparsely disseminated graphite. One bed is 8 to 21 feet thick (averaging 14 feet) and is exposed along strike for about 1,500 feet. The second bed is found 300 to 400 feet E of the first and is 20 feet thick and exposed for 1,000 feet along strike. Local rocks include Tertiary pyroclastic and volcanic mudflow deposits, unit 6 (Jacumba) and/or Miocene nonmarine rocks.
Workings include surface openings comprised of 1 small open cut.
Reserve-Resource data are found in: Todd and others (1987).
Analytical data results: Western limestone bed (an average of 4 samples): 0.30% Al2O3, 54.5% CaO, 0.10% Fe2O3, 0.76% MgO, <0.02% P2O5, 2.8% SiO2.
