A former pyrophyllite-U occurrence/mine located in the NW¼ sec. 36, T12S, R19E, SBM, about 10 miles NE of Glamis, W of highway 78 and E of Gables Wash, along the southern margin of the Chocolate Mountains. MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.

Mineralization is hosted in altered metamorphic rocks (quartzite). A contact of quartzite and sericite schist is a E-W vertical fault. A basic dike is adjacent to the contact and mostly in quartzite at surface. The U occurs in a pyrophyllite-rich zone within quartzite 50 to 100 feet E of the basic dike and 50 to 100 feet N of the quartzite-schist contact. Local rocks include schist of various types and ages, unit 2 (Southern and West-central California).

Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of a bench cut 80 feet long and 30 feet wide at 10 to 15 feet high and several smaller cuts. A vertical shaft connects with a drift adit driven W.

production information: 1000 tons of material (pyrophyllite) was mined for use as an insecticide carrier.

Analytical data results: Atomic Energy Commission samples mplace U content at 0.293%.
