A former Cu mine located in sec. 25, T1N, R11E, MDM, 3.5 km (2.2 miles) SSE of Telegraph City, S of Shirley Mountain, along Martells Creek (¼ mile S of the Star-Excelsior Mine). Operated during WWI and in 1943. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a Cu vein deposit hosted in greenstone. The ore body strikes NW and dips NE. The vein is pyritized and kaolinized greenstone with chalcopyrite. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a shallow shaft that was dewatered in 1943.
Produced $8,000 (period values) during WWI.
