A former Cu mine/occurrence located in secs. 2 & 3, T1N, R12E, MDM, at the S end of Copperopolis (S of the Empire claim). MRDS database accuracy for this location is not stated.
Mineralization is hosted in schist. Mineralization follows a 2 to 7 foot wide zone of crushing and shearing along the SW side of the McCarty Fault. The ore is a mixture of malachite and cuprite in limonite. The lower portions of the workings show chalcopyrite. Encrustations of chalcanthite are not uncommon. The wallrocks are green-spotted chlorite schist. Within the zone of Cu mineralization are thin streaks of intensely chloritized rock, restricted to a width of 3 to 4 feet adjacent to the McCarty Fault. Local alteration is chloritization. Local rocks include Mesozoic volcanic rocks, unit 2 (Western Sierra Foothills and Western Klamath Mountains).
Local structures include the McCarty Fault, which strikes parallel to the Calaveras Fault 20-25 Feet East. The McCarty Fault dips E on the surface; however, underground workings show that it swings through vertical and dips steeply W.
Workings include underground openings. There are 2 shafts. The South shaft is 35 feet deep and the North shaft is partially caved and of an undetermined depth. There are two short levels on the S shaft with a winze and an irregular open stope.
