A former Au mine located in the SE¼ (estimated) sec. 3, T2N, R13E, MDM, about 2.5 km (1¼ miles) SSE of Angels Camp, just N of Alabny Flat ( E OF HWY 49). Operated con tinuously during the period 19342 to 1941. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. Property was prospected in 1920-1921 by Angels Camp Deep Co. Originally worked during the gold rush where rich surface ores were mined in the area.
Mineralization is a vein depoasit hosted in schist and amphibolite. The ore body strikes N20W and dips 50NE at a thickness of 30.48 meters. The veins are 10 to 100 feet thick. There are 2 veins on the property, both have similar strike and dip. The back vein has an average thickness of 5 feet. The second vein is the Mother Lode vein, 80 feet E at surface. The ore contains free gold, pyrite and considerable gouge. Local rocks include undivided pre-Cenozoic metavolcanic rocks, unit 2 (undivided).
Workings include surface and underground openings with an overall depth of 70.1 meters. Property was developed by a 100 foot shaft. Some surface ore was mined. Later developments included an inclined shaft.
Production data are found in: Logan (1934) & Clark (1962).
Ore in 1938 occasionally was valued as high as $60 (period values) per ton.
