A Mn occurrence/deposit located in the E½SW¼ sec. 35, T3N, R13E, MDM, 2.2 km (1.4 miles) E of Angels Camp (private lease). Discovered in 1942. Owned by Emma Airola (1974). Operated by John T. Martin (1974). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is ore in lenses, some of which have been subjected to complex folding and faulting. Wall rocks are phyllites or sericite schist of the Calaveras series. Manganese oxide ore lies in massive meta-chert, in short, stumpy lenses enclosed in schist. Both meta-chert and ore are cut by numerous quartz veins. The unoxidized primary manganese minerals are pink rhodonite and garnet (presumably spessartine). Some porphyritic dikes (3 to 6 inches (7.5 to 15 cm)) cut through enclosing schists and ore bodies. These may be andesitic. Local rocks include pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided.
Workings data: A considerable amount of development work was done in 1940. The ore was sorted and piled on several dumps at the property, but none was shipped. Idle since then.
