A former Cu-Ag-W-Au mine located in sec. 18, T10N, R19E, MDM (UTM. estimated. Lat.-Long. based on mine symbol for the Brewers Mine on topo map), 3.6 km (2.2 miles) W of Burnside Lake (coordinates of record) and 5.8 km (3.6 miles) WSW of Hawkins Peak, along the West Fork Carson River, on the divide between the river and Red Lake Creek. Discovered in 1855 and reputed to be the first Cu claim in California. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a Late Cretaceous Cu-Au deposit hosted in skarn (tactite), amphibolite, slate, phyllite and schist. Controls for ore emplacement
included a contact between granitic intrusion and tactite. The deposit is a chalcopyrite-rich body in garnetiferous tactite. Amphibolite schist is in the hanging wall, slate and phyllite in the footwall. Regional geologic structures include a granitic batholith. Late Cretaceous granite is an associated rock. Local rocks include pre-Cenozoic metasedimentary and metavolcanic rocks undivided.
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of a shaft and open cuts.
Tectonic structures include a magmatic arc.
Production data are found in: Clark (1977).
