A former lode Au-Cu-Pb-Ag mine located in the W½ sec. 28, T10N, R18E, MDM, 0.8 km (2,500 feet) ESE of Black Butte (coordinates of record), W of Woods Lake, on National Forest wilderness land (Mokelumne Wilderness). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
NOTE: MRDS database file #10187054 states: "Probably old Woods Lake Mine."
Mineralization is hosted in diorite and quartz diorite. The ore body strikes W and dips vertically. 2 veins a few feet apart with vertical dip. A third vein is flat-dipping, associated with fault gauge. The country rock ranges from medium-grained quartz dioritte to hard, fine-grained diorite. Coarse-grained quartz diorite crops out to the N. There are abundant sulfides. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of a 700 fot adit, drifts and a shallow winze near the portal. The flat vein was also worked with an adit. The workings were partially accessible in 1965.

Production statistics during the period 1932-1939 gave variable results: 3,383 grams/metric ton Ag; Cu at 5,336 grams/metric ton; Pb at 32,662 grams/metric ton; Au at 40 grams/metric ton; and (1939) Ag at 121 grams/metric ton with Cu at 4,303 grams/metric ton.
