A former lode Au-Cu mine located in the NE¼ sec. 32, T7N, R12E, MDM, 1.6 km (1.0 mile) WNW of Pine Grove, on private land. Discovered in 1946. Owned by Claude Hanley (1953). Operated intermittently during the period 1946 to 1949. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Property was developed intermittently from discovery in 1946 to 1949, when work was stopped. Mine has been idle since. It was under lease to H.P. Livingston.
Mineralization is hosted in slate and schist. The ore body strikes N and dips 90. Controls for ore emplacement included a sheared and fracture zone. Free Au is associated with sulfides. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings comprised of an 84 degree inclined shaft 120 feet deep. The 100 foot level has a 58 foot drift and 130 feet of crosscuts. A 20 ton mill was erected on the property but never operated and was moved to another mine.
Production data are found in: Carlson, D.W. & W.B. Clark (1954).
Approximately $5,000 (period values) of Au was produced under lease to Livingston. There was also some production by the Owl Mining Co. in 1954.
