A former lode Au mine located in sec. 20, T7N, R13E, MDM, 1.6 km (1.0 mile) NNE of Pioneer, along Pioneer Creek, on private land. Discovered in 1921. Owned by J.H. Hauhuth (1953). Operated during the period 1921 to 1941. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters. After the late 1920's, the mine was worked almost continuously by several different lessees until 1941.
Mineralization is a quartz vein deposit hosted in granodiorite. The ore body strikes N50-55W and dips steeply SW at a thickness of 1.52 meters. The vein varies in thickness from 6 inches (15 cm) to 5 feet (1.4 meters), averaging 28 inches (0.8 meter). Free Au is associated with pyrite. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include underground openings with a length of 335.28 meters and comprised of a 1,100 foot adit with backs increasing from 90 to 400 feet as it goes further into the hill.
