A former lode Au-Cu occurrence/mine located in the SW¼ sec. 26, T7N, R13E, MDM, about 3 km SSE of Barton, on the W ridge overlooking the North Fork Mokelumne River (about 2 miles SE of the Buckhorn Lodge), on private land. Discovered in 1950. Operated by Behrend Deecher, George Viscovich, and Steve Miloservich. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in granodiorite. The ore body strikes N and dips 90 at a thickness of 1.83 meters and a length of 914.4 meters. Quartz stringers are 1 to 3 inches (2.5 to 7.5 cm) in quartz pockets in a 6 foot (1.83 meters) wide mineralized zone. The vein outcrops for 3,000 feet and is vertical but dips W at the N end of the exposure. Gold occurs with quartz, some pyrite, and less chalcopyrite and malachite. Local rocks include Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
Workings include surface and underground openings with a length of 25.91 meters and comprised of 2 adits at 20 and 65 feet plus a 20 foot open cut. Exploratory work was being carried out by Jenex Gold Corporation including a geophysical and geochemical surveys (December, ____). (Data truncated by the USGS MRDS database)
No production was recorded but Au assay values were $12 (period values) per ton on parts of the vein in the second adit; $12 (period values) per ton in the open cut, and $121 (period values) per ton in the main zone in the lower level. Hanging wall samples in granite varied between $14 and $28 (period values) per ton.
