A former lode Au mine located in the E½ sec. 2, T7N, R12E, MDM, about 5.6 km N of Volcano, on the N side of the South Fork Dry Creek (near the Oleta Stage Road), on private land. Owned by William M. Metcalf (1953). Operated prior to 1895. Tailings were worked in 1934. Operated again during the period 1935 to 1941. No production since 1941, but maintenance work as been done. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is .
Mineralization is a quartz vein deposit hosted in greenschist and slate. Free gold occurs associated with pyrite in quartz stringers. Local rocks include Paleozoic marine rocks, undivided, unit 4 (Western Sierra Nevada).
Workings include underground openings comprised of a 300 foot deep shaft, now caved.
Production data are found in: Carlson, D.W. & W.B. Clark (1954).
Produced some Pb & Cu from concentrates shipped between 1934 to 1950.
