A gemstone occurrence located on private property in sec. 22, T8N, R11E, MDM, 1.7 km (1.1 miles) S of River Pines and 3.2 km (2.0 miles) NNE of Fiddletown, ESE of Pigeon Creek School. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters but the deposits stretch in both directions for approximately 2km to the northeast and to the southwest. All occurrences lie on private land with no public access.
Carlson, D.W. & W.B. Clark (1954) mentions two separate things:
Chrysoprase is found in veins and as replacement pods in silicified serpentine and volcanic rock. 1 mile south of River Pines east of the Pigeon Creek School.
Moss Opal is found associated with siliceous limonitic serpentine.
Local rocks include Calaveras Complex (meta-sedimentary and volcanic/meta-volcanic rocks). Ultramafic rocks unknown age. Merhten formation (Andesitic conglomerate, sandstone, and breccia). Mesozoic granitic rocks, unit 3 (Sierra Nevada, Death Valley area, Northern Mojave Desert and Transverse Ranges).
